What Are Scruples?
1) |
The first definition,
which most people are familiar with, is that voice (internal struggle) in
our heads that tells us that something we are about to do is not the
"right" thing to do. |
2) |
The second definition, which you might not
know, is that a scruple is an old apothecaries unit of weight. There
are 24 scruples in a Troy ounce(oz), which is the weight commonly
used for precious metals. |
What exactly are you selling?
|
We are selling commemorative medallions (coins) that are equivalent to
10 scruples
based on the second definition, listed above. However, the hope is that if you
have some scruples then you will be reminded to listen to that little voice
inside you. |
What are the scruples made out of?
|
The scruples are made of pure investor grade .999
fine silver. Having scruples is an investment. |
How do you use scruples?
|
If you have scruples then you probably already know
how to use them. If you don't have any scruples or you lost yours
then the following are some suggestions how to use your scruples:
- During a contract negotiation, if you lose, you can pull them out of
your pocket and then give them to your opponent and say, "Here you
obviously don't have any of these!" and then walk out.
- Better yet, prior to starting the negotiations consider giving some
to your opponent and maybe you can both be winners.
- Scruples make great gifts!

How many scruples do I need?
|
When most people are asked, they say they only need 10
or 20 scruples (1 or 2 coins) for themselves. However, most of us know
somebody who needs some scruples. If you are buying scruples for
someone else then please see our gift advice section. It has
suggestions based on whether you are buying for a man or a woman, what
your relationship is to them or by their profession. |
The difference between "Scruples" and "Indulgences"?
|
In the early 1500's the Catholic Church used to sell
"Indulgences". They were kind of get out of sin free cards. An
individual would buy an indulgence to prepay for penance and could
therefore avoid the confessional.
For those of you who are history buffs, this practice was
what Martin Luther
wrote his 95 Theses about, which he nailed to the door of the Castle Church.
The difference between "scruples" and "indulgences" is that scruples are
supposed to stop you from sinning in the first place.

Why did you select Rodin's the "Thinker"?
|
THE THINKER by Rodin is the most famous piece of art by
the French sculptor August Rodin (d. 1917). "The Thinker" is pondering
so intensely that even his toes are tightly clutching the ground.
To understand why the "The Thinker" was selected it is helpful to have
some knowledge of the work for which it was originally conceived. In 1880
Rodin was commissioned to make an entry way for a museum, which
was never built. When he undertook
the work he had been reading Dante's Inferno (which is a fictional account
of a man’s trip to Hell) and the entry way started out to be a depiction
of that work. He continued to work on the project off and on for forty
years. Over the years the work became not only influenced by Dante
but also Bible. The athletic figure created depicts a man in sober
meditation; his muscles strain with effort, evidence of a powerful
internal struggle.
Scruples are that internal struggle between what is good and what
is evil. Rodin's thinker perfectly portrays that mental struggle, which
has been captured by world renowned medallic artist
Alex Shagin.

Why are scruples cheaper by the dozen?
|
It just seemed to make sense. |
Can we get scruples made with our corporate logo?
|
Special arrangements can be made to mint 25 Scruple
medallions or key chains with your corporate logo on the back. The coins
are slightly large (1 1/2 inches in diameter) and are made of non-precious
metal (similar to a quarter). The molds cost between $1000 to $1500 to
produce and the minimum order quantity is typically 1000 medallions and
they are cheaper than you might expect.
Since the medallions are
made of non-precious there is a considerable cost savings to you. If you are
interested in getting your project quoted please email your request to
businessdepartment@scruplestore.com. Please include your name and phone number so that someone
in corporate sales can contact you.
[Please Note: We apologize for any inconvenience but we have made a corporate decision that
only the 10 scruple medallion is available in precious metal.] |
